The Twins came up short in their attempt to match their longest winning streak of the year with a fourth straight victory. Bret Saberhagen and the Royals made sure of that with an 8-2 victory at the Metrodome. The Royals hit three home runs, two off of Twins starter Allan Anderson, and Saberhagen held the Twins’ lineup to just two runs on eight hits in the complete game victory.
The Steve Lombardozzi saga continued as well. Lombardozzi, who has been watching Twins games from the dugout, made his first major league appearance as a short stop in this game. Though he went 1-for-4 at the plate and played nine innings in the field, he is still waiting for his first major league fielding chance at short – the Royals did not hit the ball there all day.
