1961 Game 140: Minnesota Twins (59-79) @ Kansas City Athletics (51-88)

Friday September 8, 1961

A’s 6, Twins 4

Jim Kaat held the Athletics in check for six innings and the Twins held a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning stretch. Harmon Killebrew hit his 40th home run of the season to help the Twins build the lead.

Things unraveled in the bottom of the seventh, however. A key error charged to Zoilo Versalles loaded the bases with nobody out, leading to a four-run inning that chased Kaat from the game a put the A’s in the lead for good.

Kansas City added an insurance run in their half of the eighth, and the Twins squandered a scoring opportunity with two on and no outs in the ninth.
