1961 Game 127: Baltimore Orioles (74-55) @ Minnesota Twins (55-71)

Saturday August 26, 1961

Orioles 7, Twins 4

Bill Tuttle’s throwing error with nobody out in the top of the first inning allowed two Orioles to score. It got worse, however, when the next batter Jim Gentile hit a two-run home run that gave the visitors a 4-0 lead. The O’s built the lead to 6-0 before the Twins were able to score in the bottom of the fifth inning. It added up to another Twins’ loss.

In Kansas City, Roger Maris made headlines by cracking his 51st home run of the season, now five ahead of teammate Mickey Mantle. Gentile is third on the home run list with 39, and Minnesota’s Killebrew is fourth with 37.
