1961 Game 121: Minnesota Twins (51-69) @ Los Angeles Angels (52-68)

Saturday August 19, 1961

Twins 5, Angels 3

The Twins used the home run ball to build up a decent-sized 5-0 lead on the Angels. Harmon Killebrew (37), Zoilo Versalles (6), and Bill Tuttle (4) each hit solo shots, while Lenny Green started the scoring with a two-run home run (6) in the third inning.

Into the ninth inning, Jim Kaat had allowed just three hits, and needed three more outs to complete a shutout. Those outs proved hard to come by, however, and the Angels made the final score a lot closer with a three-run rally that chased Kaat with one out in the ninth inning. Ray Moore came on and recorded the final two outs in the Twins’ win.
