1961 Game 113: Minnesota Twins (47-65) @ Boston Red Sox (55-61)

Thursday August 10, 1961

Red Sox 3, Twins 2

The Twins’ 3-2 loss at Boston represented the eighth consecutive one-run game for the Twins. Over that stretch, the team is 1-7.

This particular occasion had somewhat less drama than most of the previous seven. The Sox scored their three runs in the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead off of Minnesota starter Al Schroll.

The Twins used two solo home runs, one from Zoilo Versalles (5) and one from Jim Lemon (12), to get back into the game but they were unable to push the winning run across. Billy Martin struck out with two on and two out to end the game in what was probably the team’s biggest threat to tie the game.
