1961 Game 106: Minnesota Twins (46-59) @ New York Yankees (68-37)

Saturday August 5, 1961

Yankees 2, Twins 1

Neither Mickey Mantle or Roger Maris hit home runs in Saturday’s game against the Twins, but the bombers still won in a pitcher’s duel, 2-1.

Though Jack Kralick was able to hold the potent Yankee lineup to just two runs, all the Twins could manage against Jim Coates was a single run on four hits.

The game was tied at one until the eighth inning. With one out, Maris singled. Home run race partner Mantle knocked him in with a triple. While Mantle was stranded at third, the go ahead run turned out to be enough.
