1961 Game 99: Minnesota Twins (42-56) @ Detroit Tigers (64-35)

The Twins were tied with the second-place Tigers with one out in the top of the ninth inning at Tiger Stadium. After Harmon Killebrew reached on an error with one out, Bob Allison stepped into the batter’s box. Allison had connected with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. The Tigers had put together a pair of runs since to tie the game.

Allison provided the other bookend to the game with another two-run home run in the ninth, it was his 22nd of the season. This one also put his team up by two runs. Though Pedro Ramos gave up a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth (his league-leading 28th allowed), the Twins held on for a 4-3 win.
