1961 Game 98: Washington Senators (43-54) @ Minnesota Twins (41-56)

Thursday July 27, 1961

Twins 5, Senators 2

Harmon Killebrew hit his 31st home run of the year and Don Lee pitched a four-hit, two-run complete game to power the Twins to a series win over the expansion Washington Senators.

The Twins were down early when Jim King gave Washington a two run lead with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning. As it turned out, that was all Lee would allow. The Twins’ starter struck out three on the way to his third win of the season.

Minnesota got a run back in the bottom of the second on a Lenny Green sacrifice fly. Killebrew’s blast, a solo shot, came as part of a two-run bottom of the fifth inning that put the Twins ahead for good.
