1961 Games 88 & 89: Minnesota Twins (36-51) @ Cleveland Indians (48-41)

Sunday July 16, 1961

Indians 5, Twins 7
Twins 12, Indians 5

After dropping the first game of the Sunday doubleheader 7-5, the Twins’ offense came out to play for game two.

The totals for the game: 12 runs on 15 hits. Interestingly, this often home run happy team scored 12 without the benefit of the long ball, and with only four extra base hits (out of 15 total hits).

Lenny Green would have only needed a home run to hit for the cycle, but he was still the offensive most valuable player of the game for the Twins. He went 5-for-6 from the lead off spot, scored three runs and knocked in two more.
