“These guys are feeling it right now,”

…Gardenhire said. “There’s a lot of disappointment, but like I said, there’s a long season to go here. We’ve just got to keep grinding.” –quoted in Joe Christensen’s game story.

Game 73: Mets 5 (42-31), Twins 2 (40-33)

The losing streak is at four, the longest of the season, and this team can’t seem to get a break.

Things started well Friday night with a lead off home run by Denard Span, but ultimately the Mets put together an inning that has become so common for Twins’ opponents – multiple extra-base hits that usually put a crooked number on the board.

WPA Stars of the Game
1. Denard Span
2. David Wright
3. Mike Pelfrey

Standings (through Friday)
1. Min 40-33, 339-296, –
2. Det 39-33, 322-322, 0.5
3. Chi 38-34, 315-318, 1.5
4. KC 31-43, 329-367, 9.5
5. Cle 26-46, 300-377, 13.5

Carl Pavano takes the hill against Johan Santana – it would be nice to get another effort like Sunday’s out of Pavano.
