The Twins were trailing 4-2 at the seventh inning stretch in game one of the Tuesday twinbill against the Red Sox. With one on and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Julio Becquer launched his third home run of the season to tie the game. The Sox added a run in the top of the eighth to reclaim the lead at 5-4, but the Twins answered in the bottom of the frame.

With one out, the Twins loaded the bases with the help of a Bill Tuttle double and a pair of walks. After Becquer struck out, Zoilo Versalles delivered a two-run single up the middle that gave the Twins a 6-5 lead.Danny McDevitt worked around a ninth inning error to maintain the win in the ninth.

In the night cap, Pedro Ramos and Gene Conley were engaged in a pitcher’s duel through the first five-and-a-half innings. The Twins finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Bob Allison went deep for his 13th home run of the season to break the game open. The Twins added runs with a pair of sacrifice flies, one each in the seventh and eighth innings.

Boston scored three times in the ninth, but the Twins had built a large enough lead that they were able to hold on for the win and the double header sweep.
