1961 Game 59: Kansas City Athletics (25-30) @ Minnesota Twins (22-36)

Thursday June 15, 1961

Twins 4, A’s 3

There hasn’t been a lot of excitement surrounding the Twins over the last month or so, but the team put together an exciting finish in front of the home crowd to earn a rare victory.

A Bob Allison bases-clearing double in the fourth inning had given the Twins and Jack Kralick a 3-2 lead. Kralick came out for the ninth inning and promptly allowed a lead off double that eventually scored the tying run.

With Gerry Staley on in relief for Kansas City, Earl Battey led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. He was sacrificed to second by Bill Tuttle, and reached third on a passed ball. Jose Valdivieso sent the crowd home happy with a single up the middle that scored the game-winning run.
