Depleted and Deflated

Game 57: A’s 4 (30-28), Twins 3 (33-24)

In retrospect, it seems amazing that the Twins were able to compete with a decent major league team over the past two days. That they had a chance to win both, and sweep the series was quite an accomplishment, especially considering Nick Blackburn’s struggles on Sunday afternoon. That is why I love baseball. It would have been nice to see the Twins finish the comeback that they seemed to start with Delmon Young’s home run, but coming home with a 3-4 road trip doesn’t feel great, but it is nothing to be ashamed of.

WPA Stars of the Game

AL Central Standings (through Sunday)
1. Min 33-24, 267-220, –
2. Det 29-27, 247-245, 3.5
3. Chi 24-32, 235-279, 8.5
4. KC 24-34, 253-287, 9.5
5. Cle 21-34, 222-285, 11.0

The Twins are scheduled to get a look at Zack Greinke on Tuesday. Greinke didn’t look so hot last time, but he might be getting this team at the right time.
