Extra Inning Win

Game 55: Twins 5 (32-23), A’s 4 (29-27) – 11 innings

Justin Morneau has been a beast this season, and that continued Friday night in Oakland. Though the manager wanted to rest him, it looks as if that might be unlikely considering Morneau has been one of the few Twins who has consistently been hitting over this past week. Morneau added another 2-for-4 effort on Friday. He scored three runs and knocked in two, both on his first inning home run.

The win was nice, and it broke a mini-losing streak the Twins had started in Seattle. Unfortunately, the news on Orlando Hudson is not as good. Prior to his collision with Denard Span last Sunday night, Hudson was the other Twin who was hitting well. Now it looks as if he might be headed for the disabled list. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the team is slumping offensively in Hudson’s absence.

Saturday brings game two of the Oakland series. Francisco Liriano could do this team a world of good by returning to the form that made him dominant in April.

I thought I read that Morneau himself asked for the day off…or at least a day off sometime soon

I think you are right, but now it sounds like he is trying to stay in the lineup.

A player on a streak has to respect the streak.
