I was in the line for ice cream when Joe Mauer hit the three-run home run. Being that was the highlight from the Twins’ perspective the less said about the game the better.
The highlight for me, however, came in the late innings when activity began in the Twins bullpen. With both roster catchers in the game, it appeared the crew was a little short in the pen. For a while a coach filled the void as the second bullpen catcher, but quickly a figure emerged from the home dugout. His gait gave him away – Carlos Gomez was headed out to the bullpen with a catcher’s mask in tow.
I have no idea if this was a first time thing for Gomez, but it kept my attention for almost a full inning. He was clearly not comfortable in the catching crouch, and more than a few balls got by him.
It was an entertaining show, but I’m still not quite sure what to make of it.
