Swinging Bunts: Wheelin’ and Dealin’

-This winter has already been more interesting for the Twins than any in recent memory. With all of the Santana talk continuing to heat up, it is entirely plausible that by the time you read this, Johan Santana will be a member of another team.

I did a Q & A with Seth at SethSpeaks, probably the first time I have been the subject of one of those. He asked me (and other bloggers) our thoughts on the Twins. You can check it out here.

Among the questions Seth asked was my thoughts on the Delmon Young trade. I didn’t like it at first, as you can read at his site. After having a few days to consider everything, I am still of the opinion that the Twins are not a better team than they were before the trade. Additionally, it doesn’t sit well with me that our new prospect is best known for throwing a bat at an umpire in the minor leagues.

-I did mention in the comments at Seth’s that this trade is an interesting one. Typically, Twins bloggers tend to agree on a lot of things. On this deal, there seems to be some disagreement, something that makes for interesting discussion. The deal was so interesting, in fact, that it brought one blogger out of retirement (sort of).

-While most everybody in the area was glued to the Vikings game yesterday, I was at Williams Arena watching the top-ranked Gopher wrestling team against #2 Iowa State. The Gophers lost the dual meet thanks to some upsets at the early weights, but hopefully this is just a hiccup on the way to another championship. It’s nice to feel that way about one of my favorite teams.

The Sporting News is running a simulation of the 1986 season using Strat-O-Matic online with various bloggers managing the teams. Though the hometown nine are currently in last place, I suspect that, under the leadership of an esteemed Twins blogger, they will right the ship shortly.

-Finally, the cutest 10-month old ever experiencing the snow.

It’s not going to be easy to right the ship. I’ve got the WORST pitching staff ever. And damn, Puck’s not hitting the ball over the fence.
